Boycott Advance Download for Windows/Mac

Is Boycott Advance as good as some people say? Does it offer the same functions and features you find in competitors like VisualBoy Advance? This emulator has a decent following. However, some people hate it for various reasons.

What is Boycott Advance?

Boycott Advance is an old application that allows people to play Game Boy Advance games on Windows, Mac, and Linux devices. It was designed to run both commercial and homebrew games, and it does so successfully. However, the performance is far from perfect.

The developer has admitted that the emulator is at its best when you use it to play older GBA games. It won’t run newer games. When it first came out, the developer argued that he would wait until the GBA was no longer on commercial sale before taking the time to improve the emulator’s compatibility.

Boycott Advance

The Game Boy Advance is no longer on commercial sale but Boycott Advance’s compatibility has not improved. Don’t expect this to change anytime soon. The author stopped working on this emulator over a decade ago. The project hasn’t been updated in years. Don’t expect this to change anytime soon.

Despite the advancements it made when it was first introduced, emulators like Higan have already surpassed Boycott Advance. It cannot compete with modern GBA applications.

That being said, you can still use it. The first few versions could not emulate the sound. But this bug was fixed by the versions that came after. The few games it can run are smooth in its gameplay. You can use it to play everything from Castlevania AoS to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

More importantly, it does an amazing job of running homebrew applications. It should be noted that Boycott Advance has a small screen because the resolution is so poor. You can make the screen bigger by dragging the edges of the window outward. But the bigger the window gets, the worse the graphics will become.

How To Install Boycott Advance?

You don’t have to install Boycott Advance. Just extract the executable file and run it. Like so many older emulators, this one doesn’t have an installer. If you can extract the executable file, it will launch the emulator immediately. You don’t have to deal with installation wizards and progress bars.

The emulator runs on older Pentium computers. This is a good thing for people that cannot afford newer, high-end machines.

How To Use Boycott Advance?

The only thing you need to do to use Boycott Advance is to click ‘Open’. This option will take you to the folder that contains your ROMs. You can use other menus to change the graphics, enhance the sound, configure the controls, and the like. But if all you want is to play games, the ‘Open’ screen is the only option that matters to you.

Conclusion

Boycott Advance doesn’t have that many fans. In fact, it barely has an online community because it was discontinued more than a decade ago. The number of people using it is small because it has poor compatibility. But if you want to run homebrew applications, this emulator is adequate.
